JEWELLERY CARE

Handcrafted gemstone jewellery may be delicate and should be handled with care.

Cleaning & storage of your jewellery is very important to keep it looking at its best.

Here are some useful tips:

·To clean your silver use a gentle silver cloth to buff away any tarnish, avoid using on the stones.

·Store each piece separately preferably wrapped in tissue or a soft piece of fabric. Almost every gemstone is much harder than the metal it is set in. gemstones can scratch the finish on gold, silver or platinum if your jewellery is all together in a jewellery box.

·Avoid spraying perfume onto your pieces of jewellery.

·Try not to wear your items of jewellery when cleaning or gardening to prevent any damage.

·Gemstones are durable substances but still need some care-

Use a soft toothbrush to clean your stones.

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner or ammonia for cleaning such gemstones as Lapis, Turquoise or Malachite. They should be wiped gently with a moist cloth.

These gemstones can be porous and may absorb chemicals, even soap, which may build up inside the stone and discolour it.

The reason why these materials need more care than transparent gemstones is that these materials are essentially rocks, not crystals of a single mineral.

Organic gemstones like Coral & Amber should only be wiped clean with a moist cloth. Due to their organic nature, these gemstones are both soft and porous.

Even the hardest gemstone variety can be vulnerable to breakage if it has inclusions that weaken the crystal structure.
